As a fraternity founded upon the mission of the Society of Jesus, the brothers of Alpha Delta Gamma continually strive to be Men for Others. Unfortunately, the negative stereotype propagated by Animal House and Old School continue to plague the Greek Community. We've provided the following information to set the record straight; to outline the policies of our fraternity and our chapter regarding several key issues.

Did you know?

  • 85% of Fortune 500 executives are Greek
  • 76% of U.S. Congressman and Senators are Greek
  • 40% of all Supreme Court Justices have been Greek
  • All but two U.S. Presidents and two Vice Presidents since 1825 have been Greek
  • 85% of the U.S. Supreme Court Justices since 1910 have been Greek
  • 63% of U.S. President's cabinet members since 1900 are Greek
  • 750,000 Undergraduate Members in 12,000 chapters
  • Over 800 Campuses in USA & Canada
  • 10 Million Service Hours a Year
  • Over $10 Million raised for charities each year

What is a fraternity?

Picture
To put it simply, a fraternity is a group of men, college-age and beyond, who desire to achieve a deeper bond of friendship through a values-based organization. The first greek letter organization, Phi Beta Kappa, was founded at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia in December of 1776.

Since its inception, millions of college aged men have been drawn to the prestige, structure, history, and fulfillment of a commitment to Greek life.  A commitment to a fraternity is more than joining a new group of friends, it is a commitment to one's future.

A recent 2-year study at the University of Missouri examining the long-term benefits of membership in a fraternity or sorority found:

  • Students with membership in a fraternity or sorority are more likely to complete college.
  • College graduates who were members of a fraternity or sorority tend to be more financially successful than those graduates not in Greek organizations.
  • Colleges receive more donations - and in greater amounts - from sorority and fraternity alumni.
  • Sorority and fraternity members participate in more campus activities and in more community service after college than others.

What is ΑΔΓ's stance on hazing?

Picture

As a fraternity we adhere to and support Saint Louis University's hazing policy, which defines hazing as:

"as any act which endangers the mental or physical health or safety of a student, or which destroys or removes public or private property for the purpose of initiation, admission into, affiliation with, or as a condition for continued membership in, a group or organization. The express implied consent of the victim will not be a defense. Apathy or acquiescence in the presence of hazing are not neutral acts and may be considered violations of this policy."

We conduct our Candidate Education Program in such a way as to educate new members in the history, values, and traditions of our fraternity, while respecting these men as future brothers in our organization.

What is ΑΔΓ's stance on alcohol and substance abuse?

Picture
Alpha Delta Gamma does not in anyway promote or condone the abuse of alcohol or any other controlled substance.  The fraternity strictly adheres to the policies set forth by:

SLU Drug and Alcohol Policy

IFC Risk Management Manual

As a chapter, all of our recruitment and candidate education events are substance free.  We also hold several alcohol-free social events each semester.
